Contemporary Wedding

Initial thoughts

The initial brief for this project was to provide a pavillion style structure to accommodate 200 guests for a wedding breakfast followed by dancing. Internally, the structure required a dynamic layout which could accommodate the wedding party for a champagne reception, seated meal, dancing, a bar/lounge area and on site catering.

Developing the Idea

With a framework to build upon, the next stage of the planning process was to focus on an overall ‘feel’ for the event. At this early stage, the client’s emphasis was on achieving a contemporary design that took full advantage of the beautifull views.  With this in mind, we first developed a floor plan that was dynamic to the clients needs, but remained functional for the many faucets of the event.

Painting the Canvass

Next, with a firm layout in mind, it was time to design a striking interior that would capture the imagination of the client. To bring an element of simple sophistication, traditional cream carpet and linings were chosen as a neutral base from which to build layers of colour. In direct contrast, a shimmering all black dance floor provided the perfect juxtaposition of bold tones, allowing shades of deep pink and subtle star lights to be use to dramatic effect.

Working with the Exterior

With the interior side of things tied up, it was time to focus on bringing external elements into play. Rather than a covered walk way, we decided on a simple candle lit path to guide guests across the lawn to the marquee. Mrs Hurst-Brown was also keen to draw attention to the garden’s lake, so we positioned an array of neutral toned hurricane lamps around the fringes of the water to make an eye catching but subtle feature. And finally, to knit both external and internal elements together, clear roofing was used for the final 12m of the marquee, allowing guests to dance under star light, protected from the unpredictability of British weather!

Jumping the Hurdles

Every build has its challenges, and this was without exception. The first major test came in the form of the garden’s irrigation system, which had to be measured and mapped before the marquee’s leveled wood floor could be laid. Cue a good watering for the garden and some rather wet measuring, and we were confident we could secure the flooring without disruption to the irrigation network.

The beating heart of an event is its power source, and the client was going to take absolutely no risks in ensuring there was an uninterrupted power supply for the full duration of the event. To settle her nerves, we installed two super silent generators, running in synchronisation, meaning if one generator failed, there would be a seamless transition to the second power plant.

When the Dust Had Settled

In our opinion, testament of a successful event comes from the positive feedback of our clients , so we were extremely happy to receive these kind words from Mrs Hurst-Brown:
